Can you tell us a bit about where you're from and your background before entering the fashion industry?
I am from China. Before entering the fashion industry, I was a college student, primarily studying fashion design.
How did you first get into modelling, and what drew you to the fashion industry?
I entered the modelling industry by coincidence. While waiting for takeout at the school gate, a senior fashion designer saw me and approached me. He thought I was suitable for modelling and suggested that I give it a try.
What attracted me to the fashion industry is the imaginative and unique ideas everyone brings. I love meeting different people and learning from them. The fashion industry not only helps me learn top fashion knowledge but also broadens my horizons and improves my aesthetic taste. Additionally, I enjoy learning about fashion cultures from different countries and making international friends.
Can you share your experience walking for high-end brands like Simone Rocha, Moschino, and Balenciaga? What were the highlights of these shows?
Preparing for each show requires ensuring the best mental state and a professional attitude to respect and cooperate with each brand. We match different walking styles with the brand styles to achieve the ideal presentation.
Simone Rocha was my first show at International Fashion Week, held in an old building in London. It was romantic and classical, and I was thrilled to wear two outfits. Moschino was full of fun with its signature elements and marked the first show for a new designer, which I was delighted to be part of. Finally, Balenciaga's first show in Shanghai was memorable. Just before the show began, it started to rain, adding a dramatic effect to the event.
Walking for Balenciaga's resort show in Shanghai must have been exciting. How did it feel to represent such a renowned brand in your home country?
This was the first time I walked for such a famous brand in my country. I felt happy, excited, and proud. It was a unique experience. I felt happy, excited, and proud. It represented the collective efforts of everyone involved, and I hope to have more opportunities like this.
How do you prepare yourself mentally and physically before walking on such prestigious runways?
Mentally, I try to relax and calm myself. I silently cheer and encourage myself to do better. Physically, I maintain my fitness and engage in hobbies in my daily life.
Who are your biggest inspirations in the fashion industry, and why?
Liu Wen is a significant inspiration for me. She is powerful and hardworking, and she serves as a role model for us to learn from.
What are your goals for the future in modelling, and are there any specific designers or brands you dream of working with?
I hope more people can see and appreciate my work. It would be amazing for people to see my pictures and say, "Wow, that's Chinese model Yang Xinjun." I am open to working with any designer who likes me, and I aspire to create different sparks with many designers. I hope you will see more of me in the future, hahaha.
