“My design philosophy is rooted in a celebration of the rich history and traditional craftsmanship of Georgia while simultaneously embracing contemporary and avant-garde elements. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant cultural tapestry of Georgia, including its art, architecture, and landscapes, I strive to create a unique aesthetic that reflects the dynamic spirit of the modern world.”

Irakli Rusadze is the Creative Director and founder of Tbilisi-based brand SITUATIONIST. Connecting old Georgian memories with contemporary interpretations, Rusadze opened his local culture to the whole world and showed it from a new angle that highlighted the shades and influences that have affected Georgian culture. As he describes it himself, “The Georgian environment and cultural richness are integral to the identity of SITUATIONIST. Inspired by Georgia’s history, traditional craftsmanship and architectural marvels, the brand’s aesthetic blends past and present. The diverse landscapes and cultural identity of Georgia serve as constant sources of inspiration, infusing authenticity and a unique character into the designs. SITUATIONIST aims to be a global ambassador for Georgian fashion, celebrating the country’s heritage while pushing the boundaries of conventional design.”
The name of the brand itself asserts Rusadze’s concept and approach to fashion, as it is named after the Situationist International Movement. This choice reflects the commitment to push boundaries, embrace avant-garde concepts and create fashion that goes beyond clothing, all of which reflects the designer.
When talking about his SS24 collection, the Tbilisi-based creative describes how “The Spring Summer 2024 collection was titled ‘Making of Husbands’ and was inspired by my visit to the exhibition of the same name, featuring Christina Ramberg’s work. The emphasis on comfort aims to symbolically liberate the body from containment, restraint and reform, which define Ramberg’s work, as well as our society. The key element in the collection is a tulip, symbolizing Georgian resistance towards Russia and memories of the Tbilisi Massacre on 09.04.1989. The Spring Summer 2024 collection also showcases jewellery inspired by hammered ‘Chikanka’ female figures, commonly used as interior decor in many Soviet Georgian households.”
Since the very beginning of its conception, Situationist managed to push boundaries not only in design but in uniquely presenting the essence of Georgian culture. Reflecting on the future the Situationist founder outlines that, “I would love to connect bridges between art and fashion, and work with young Georgian artists in our future projects.”
